The Taormina Cable Car is a state-of-the-art transportation system that connects the historic center of Taormina to the coastal area of Mazzarò. The entire system is designed to ensure efficiency, safety, and comfort throughout the ride.
The drive-tension station is located at the lower end, while the return and anchor station is located at the upper end. The horizontal length of the system is 701.30 meters, while the inclined length reaches 725.32 meters. With a height difference of 170.50 meters and a maximum gradient of 68%, the cable car is a fast and scenic solution for moving between the two areas. The maximum height from the ground is 30.05 meters, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
The cable car operates at a maximum speed of 5 meters per second and slows down to 0.3 meters per second in the station to ensure safe boarding and disembarking. The system consists of two clusters, each made up of four vehicles, with a capacity of 12 seats per vehicle. The total hourly capacity is 652 people, making the system ideal for handling a high volume of passengers.
From a technical point of view, the carrying cable has a diameter of 50 mm, while the tension cable measures 40 mm in diameter. The main motors have a power of 2 x 183 KW, supported by a counterweight force of 72,000 daN. The entire system is supported by a total of 10 towers, ensuring stability and safety along the route.
